Note from Heidi Williams, President & CEO

I’m excited to share two important staff updates at Civic Results this month!

Congratulations to Maggie Graves, who has been promoted from Program Assistant to Program Manager. Maggie will now take the lead on at least one Civic Results project and expand her portfolio as she continues to grow with the organization. This month also marks her one-year anniversary with Civic Results—please join me in congratulating Maggie on a job well done and thanking her for her tremendous contributions to our growth and the ongoing success of the Metro Mayors Caucus.

We also welcome Christina Noto into a permanent role as our new Program & Operations Associate. Christina first joined us as an intern to support the Future Housing Coalition’s Missing Middle Housing Toolkit and is pursuing her Master’s in Urban and Regional Planning. In her new role, she will continue developing toolkits while also assisting with operational improvements and supporting our small but mighty team wherever needed.

I’m grateful for such a talented team, and I’m looking forward to all we will accomplish together on behalf of Civic Results and the Metro Mayors Caucus.

Warmly,

Heidi Williams

Successful Day 1 of the Municipal Leadership Academy in Trinidad!

Thank you to our generous hosts in Trinidad, CO for a wonderful launch to our 2025/26 cohort of the Municipal Leadership Academy in August. We began with a happy hour at the Space to Create, an artist collective in downtown Trinidad. For our full day of Good Governance sessions, on Friday, August 15th, we were hosted by Trinidad State College. Their beautifully renovated library was a perfect starting point to a course designed to showcase municipalities, big and small, across the state of Colorado. Thank you to the Boettcher Foundation and CIRSA for their meaningful presentations and discussions with our participants. A special thanks to Christine Louden, the Executive Director of the Emergent Campus in Trinidad for her help connecting us to our various hosts.

We look forward to our upcoming session on water, energy and climate in Winter Park and Grand Junction!

Building Bridges -

Healthcare + Local Government

Pictured above (left to right): Lisandra Gonzales, Chief Executive Officer, RMP Cradle to Career; Dr. Steven Federico, Chief Government and Community Affairs Officer, Denver Health; Megan Axelrod, Vice President of Regulatory Policy & Federal Affairs, Colorado Hospital Association; Alec Garnett, Vice President of Government & Regulatory Affairs, UCHealth; Laura Giocomo-Rizzo, Director of Government Affairs, Intermountain Health

At our recent Building Bridges Healthcare Forum, municipal leaders and healthcare executives came together to discuss urgent challenges facing Colorado’s health systems. Topics included the Medicaid disenrollment crisis (over 600,000 Coloradans affected), the rising cost of uncompensated care, and the financial strain on hospitals—70% of which are operating without sustainable margins.

Innovative solutions were shared, such as co-responder programs that reduce unnecessary ER visits, housing partnerships to support healthcare workers and high-utilizer patients, and strategies for directing community benefit investments toward local priorities. The event underscored the importance of joint advocacy and collaboration between local governments and healthcare providers to strengthen community well-being.

The next Building Bridges event will be centered on Construction and Contractors at the HBA Offices in Centennial, CO on November 12th.
